The Network ‘Rush Hour’ Set for December 3

The Network, Federation’s Under 40 Connection, will host “Rush Hour,” a happy hour networking event for Jewish professionals from all fields, on Wednesday, December 3 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Nite Cap in Surfside. Rush Hour is open to members of the community between the ages of 22 and 39.

Federation’s South Dade Branch has launched “Federation for Families,” a program for Jewish families to meet one another. Enjoy a Chanukah Party at the Dave and Mary Alper JCC Sunday, Dec. 7, with Israeli dancing, snacks and stories for the kids.


Aventura Hospital will open a new Jewish Hospitality Room for Jewish patients and visitors to fulfill their religious obligations during the Sabbath, Jewish holidays and other occasions. Dedication ceremony: Thursday, December 4, at 5:30 pm.

Federation is sponsoring a countywide collection drive to help feed and clothe needy young families and elderly individuals on fixed incomes struggling to afford groceries this winter. Many are turning to the Community Kosher Food Bank for help.


For the seventh year in a row, the Organization for Leadership Advancement in Miami (OLAM) has organized a workshop series designed for volunteers and professional staff of Miami area Jewish organizations. First session: Thursday, December 11.


Want to perform a this Christmas to help out members of the Miami community? Join with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center and its first Jewish Community Volunteer Day on Thursday, December 25.


Young adults from Jewish communities around North America will perform tikkuNOLAm at the United Jewish Communities’ National Young Leadership Conference in New Orleans in March 2009. The annual program is open to singles and couples 22–45.


In these difficult times, volunteering is uplifting, providing the chance to make a difference in others' lives. The Jewish Volunteer Center of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation offers a wide range of opportunities for people of all ages.


Federation is accepting applications for Jewish summer camp scholarships for children ages 8 to 17. This is the seventh year Federation is making available need-based scholarships to help make Jewish overnight camping affordable. Deadline: Jan. 26.


The Professional Advisory Committee of The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation recently hosted its Fall Seminar with guest speaker Gideon Rothschild, who discussed “Asset Protection.” More than 200 area professionals participated.


Thousands of local children can enjoy bedtime stories about Jewish values and traditions, thanks to a new early childhood program called The PJ Library, launched this fall by Federation.


These are extraordinary economic times, and Federation is working with local partner agencies to respond to the dramatically increased needs of our community, and we are communicating with the directors of major agencies to determine the greatest need.


Students at Aventura’s Hillel Second Generation recently hosted three young visitors from Sderot, Israel, who shared their experiences of living under the threat of relentless Kassam rocket attacks — acts of terrorism by Hamas.


Our new Young Lion of Judah program can help parents and teens find fun community service projects to perform with their friends to improve our Miami community, while at the same time earning vital service hours.
